soggy style

I'm working on an identity system for my plushies right now, so here's some progress. Soon there should be packaging, and perhaps the roughs of a catalog. We shall see.

And now, the reject names:
The Cuddle Connection -too cutesy for monsters
The Plush Plantation -too racist for plushies
Plush Play -this one just didn't work for me
Monster Observatory -based off our fake metal band, White Skull Observatory. Y'know, for the kids.

As far as classwork goes, we're doing a team project rebranding Southwest Airlines. Should be pretty cool.

plush-mania!

This is part of the Lumps series. They originally didn't have mustaches and eyebrows, but after some experiments this summer with both fake mustaches and eyebrows, I felt it was necessary for them. It's amazing what you can show with just eyebrows, emotion-wise.



This is Frank. He's my first modified Widget- hence the wings. He visited the Computer Animation labs recently, so he's very high tech.

Got an offer at the Bob Evans this morning from our server to buy one of these guys. She said her dog would love them. I think I might make a special one for her with more chew-resistant fabric. I wouldn't want her dog to choke on poly fill.

This is my first widget, dubbed, of course, Widget. I made him and Blug last year (dark pink), and they lived in Jessica's closet all summer. Now they have lots of friends.

Taddy. He's Ben's choice of widget. I really love his ears, and he's awesomely soft. Sorry the photo is kinda blurry. :P

The emo widget wouldn't take a picture without Blug and Slug for some reason. Mr. Emo hasn't been named yet.

I've had a lot of down-time lately, between making logos for class and freelance and shooting weird videos. Hopefully this keeps up so I can continue making plushies. I plan on designing some packaging for them and incorporating them into my portfolio.

surname icons and Illest poster

My first run(s) of my surname icon for "Tatman" (Man Who Tats), then my final I'm turning it today. Then the ILLEST t-shirt poster, as it was 2 nights ago. Then the final, with Willie's t-shirt design on it, which went to print yesterday. Pretty exciting stuff.

Thanks to Willie for the opportunity to work on it, and all the ILLEST Illustrators for being collab-savvy. The show is September 28th, I suggest everybody go, and if you're in illustration, submit your stuff the 26th. (Oh yeah, and buy a t-shirt! They're going to be damn sweet!)

Sorry the updates are so infrequent lately. I've been really busy with classes, etc. I'll post up some work soon, tonight or tomorrow. A personal icon/symbol that relates to my name, the Illest poster (maybe just a screen shot of that, its HUGE) and some more widgets I've been making.

In other news, we got a new dog named Chance from the shelter yesterday. He is exceptionally well-mannered and just about the cutest dog in the world. He's part lab, part pit bull.

Anyway! The month is almost out, which signals the end to the summer holidays. I'll be posting some new work soon, but I wanted to let ya'll know I am drawing, just... not scanning any of it.

To some Ringling-ish people, I'll be seeing you all in 2-3 weeks, depending on when you get in. (Ben & I return on the 13th for smile staff.)

I'm trying to learn to draw (well, color at least) using the tablet. It's slow-going, mostly because I suck at it. Heres some drawings I did whilst waiting for some photos to come in for retouching.

cheese belts

Heres some belts I decided to design randomly today while Ben was doing freelance. I also picked up a pimp old lady hat at the flea market for 2 francs. Other than that, just drawing a lot and getting real excited about Rome in a few days. On Monday we're visiting some other swiss city (Lausanne), and then Thursday we're flying to Rome (that also happens to be my 22nd birthday.)

Also, since Ben is probably the coolest person/boyfriend in the world, he's getting me some Jay Ryan posters for mah birfday to put up in the studio next year. I cannot convey to you in words how excited I am about this. (The best part of gift giving when you live together is you get to enjoy the gift, too. Muwhahaha.)
